Boise Shed Removal Services

Boise's shed stock tracks its housing stock. North End and East End lots often still have the original tool shed or coal shed that came with a house built in the early 1900s. Bench and West Bench yards from the 1950s and 60s usually have something that went up around the same time as the house. The newer subdivisions out in West Boise, Southeast Boise and Barber Valley are more likely to have a prefab resin or metal kit shed that's only been there a few years. Those are three different jobs.

A shed that's rotted into a gravel pad in the North End comes apart differently than a bolted-down metal unit in a newer backyard, and taking a structure down is not the same job as hauling off one that's already falling apart on its own. Either way, it's not something the city's regular trash service is built to handle.

What the city handles, and where it stops

Boise runs curbside trash and recycling through Republic Services under the city's Curb It program. Each household gets a yearly allotment of free bulky-item pickups for things like couches, mattresses, water heaters, carpet and appliances once the Freon's been removed, plus a handful of free Overflow Stickers for trash that won't fit the cart. You call Republic, set the item at the curb or alley, and they take it from there.

None of that covers a shed. Curbside bulky pickup is built for furniture and appliances, not a structure that has to be broken down, pried off a slab or dug out of a gravel pad. Once you're past "set it at the curb," you're into hauling or demolition, and that's a different kind of job.

If you'd rather deal with disposal yourself, Ada County Landfill off Seamans Gulch Road in the north Boise foothills takes clean, unpainted wood, scrap metal and general construction debris along with yard waste. It charges by weight, won't take anything generated outside Ada County, and expects loads to be tarped or secured on the drive over.

What actually comes out of an old Boise shed

Given how much of the city's shed stock has been sitting in a backyard for decades, a handful of things turn up again and again:

  • Wood sheds with rotted sill boards or skids that have been sinking into the yard for years
  • Painted or stained lumber, which the landfill's clean wood pile won't accept and has to be handled as regular debris
  • Scrap metal siding, roofing and hardware that's worth pulling out to recycle instead of landfilling
  • Leftover paint, solvents or other household chemicals stashed in the back corner
  • Occasionally an old camper, boat or trailer stored behind the shed, which the landfill won't take without a title and registration that matches it

Getting your property ready before a crew shows up

Access is a bigger variable here than a lot of people expect. North End, East End and Depot Bench lots were platted long before anyone owned a pickup truck, so narrow side gates and alley access are common. It's worth measuring your gate before assuming a shed can come out in one piece. Newer neighborhoods in West Boise, Southeast Boise and Barber Valley are more likely to sit inside an HOA, which can have its own rules about what sits in a driveway or how long equipment stays on site, so check before you schedule anything.

If the plan is a full teardown rather than a straightforward haul-off, the City of Boise requires a demolition permit through Planning & Development Services. That process involves a bond, a review of any sewer connection, a waste management plan, and a notice period before materials go to disposal, followed by a report on what was reused or recycled. It's a heavier process than removing an intact shed, so it's worth knowing which one you actually need.

Either way, clear a path to the shed, move vehicles out of the way, and know where your property line sits if the shed is close to a fence or a neighbor's yard.

A shed removal in the North End and one out in Barber Valley can look completely different once you account for age, materials and access, which is why it's worth sizing up your own property instead of assuming a flat answer.
