Garden City Shed Removal Services
Garden City sits almost entirely wrapped inside Boise, and a lot of its lots run narrow and deep along Chinden or down toward the river, with sheds and small outbuildings added over the years without much planning behind them. Plenty sit close to a fence line or a mobile home pad, with alley or side-yard access instead of a real driveway. That changes how a shed comes apart and gets hauled out more than the size of the shed does.
Removal and demolition aren't quite the same job here, either. Pulling a shed off its footing and hauling it away is one thing. Tearing a structure down to grade, or clearing a manufactured home off a park pad, is another, with its own paperwork. Knowing which one you're doing before you start saves a headache later.
Permits and the Paperwork
Garden City requires a Building Demolition Permit Application for any removal of a building structure or land-disturbing activity, under Title 4, Chapter 15 of city code. That application has to come with a General Erosion and Sediment Control application attached, not filed as a separate step later.
If what's coming down is a manufactured home rather than a shed, there's a separate Manufactured Home Removal/Demo Permit. That one also triggers erosion control inspections and a plumbing cap signed off through DOPL. It matters in the city's mobile home parks, where each space is required to carry a set amount of storage space per home, so a shed removal there sometimes needs a replacement plan, not just a teardown.
Because so much of Garden City sits close to the Boise River, floodplain review applies to much of the city too. If your lot is anywhere near the Greenbelt or the Waterfront District, that's worth checking before permits get pulled.
And if a dumpster needs to sit in the street or on the shoulder during the job, remember Garden City's streets are Ada County Highway District right-of-way, not city property. That calls for an ACHD Temporary Use / Right-of-Way Permit, not a city form.
Where the Debris Actually Goes
Once a shed or outbuilding comes down, the debris has somewhere specific it's supposed to go, and sorting it right at the curb saves a second trip.
Ada County Landfill at Hidden Hollow, off Seamans Gulch Road, is close, just minutes north of Garden City up Glenwood or Hill Road. It takes construction and demolition debris, clean wood, scrap metal, and concrete, along with yard waste and a few categories that carry their own handling fee, like tires and old Freon-containing appliances.
If a straight drop-off is easier than a landfill run, the Boise Transfer Station on Curtis Road, run by Republic Services, takes trash, C&D, wood, and yard waste for a fee, and takes scrap metal for free.
Either way, hazardous waste and anything from outside the county gets turned away. Treated or painted lumber doesn't belong in a clean-wood pile either; it needs to go in with general C&D instead of the material meant for wood diversion. Loads need to be covered or secured on the drive over, not just stacked loose.
Mistakes Worth Avoiding
Most of the problems on a shed removal or demolition job in Garden City come down to a handful of avoidable things.
- Treating removal and demolition as interchangeable, when a straightforward haul-away doesn't need the same permit as tearing a structure down to grade
- Skipping the ACHD right-of-way permit when a dumpster needs to sit on the street instead of the driveway
- Mixing treated or painted wood into a clean-wood load meant for diversion at the landfill
- Not checking floodplain review on a river-adjacent lot before scheduling the work
- Assuming a shed in a mobile home park can just disappear, without checking the park's required storage-space minimum per unit
- Forgetting that tight alley access, common in older parts of the city, can mean carrying material out by hand instead of running a trailer to the door
Knowing which permit applies and where the debris gets sorted before the truck shows up is most of what keeps a Garden City shed removal or demolition job simple.
