Shed Removal in Ten Mile Area, Meridian
The Ten Mile side of Meridian is mostly newer ground. Lochsa Falls, Paramount, Bridgetower, Spurwing, Tuscany, and Settlers Bridge all went in as master-planned subdivisions with HOAs, community pools, and three-car garages. A lot of the sheds and outbuildings out here are newer too: prefab kits, treated lumber, sometimes bolted to a concrete pad instead of just resting on blocks. Closer to Old Town Meridian you'll still find smaller, older sheds that predate the subdivision boom, and those come apart differently, with older wood, old nails, and sometimes a layer of paint that changes how the debris has to be sorted.
Whether it's a backyard storage shed, a detached garage, or a mobile home that's reached the end of its life, tearing it down and hauling it off isn't just demo work. What permit applies, where the material is allowed to end up, and whether the city's own pickup program even covers it all depend on what's coming down and where it sits on the lot.
Where the Material Actually Ends Up
Most of what comes off a Ten Mile shed or demo job heads to the Ada County Landfill at Hidden Hollow, up in the north Boise foothills off Seamans Gulch Road. It takes general trash, construction and demolition debris, yard waste, mattresses, tires, Freon-containing appliances, scrap metal, clean wood, concrete, and e-waste, though tires and Freon units carry their own handling fee.
A lot of local haulers also route through the Meridian Transfer Station on West Franklin Road, since it's closer to this part of town. It accepts large metal items and cardboard at no charge and keeps posted hours like the landfill does.
Neither site takes everything, though. Out-of-county waste isn't accepted, hazardous materials can't go in with regular demo debris, and treated or painted wood usually can't go into the clean-wood diversion stream. That's a big part of why a shed job gets sorted on site before it ever leaves the property: metal in one pile, clean dimensional lumber in another, and anything treated, painted, or otherwise mixed goes into general debris instead.
Permits Meridian Expects You to Pull
Tearing down a shed, garage, or mobile home in Meridian isn't a no-permit job. Meridian Building Services, part of Community Development at 33 E Broadway, issues demolition permits along with permits for sheds, garages, and mobile homes, and applications go through the city's Citizen Access portal.
That responsibility sits with the homeowner, not the hauler, unless you've specifically arranged for someone else to pull it. If the structure sits close to a property line, or the lot is inside one of the many Ten Mile subdivisions with mandatory HOA rules, it's worth checking with the HOA too, since CC&Rs can add their own requirements on top of the city's.
If the job calls for a dumpster or container parked in the street, on the sidewalk, or on the shoulder, that's a separate matter. ACHD owns Meridian's public streets, so a container sitting in the right-of-way needs its own Temporary Use permit from ACHD, apart from whatever the city requires for the demolition itself. And burning the debris isn't an option inside city limits. Meridian only allows irrigation-ditch burning and small recreational fires within specific size limits, construction and demolition waste is never allowed in a burn, and burn barrels are prohibited county-wide.
Why the City's Bulky Pickup Doesn't Cover This
Meridian gives every single-family home a set number of free bulky-item pickups each year through its Republic Services contract, and it's a genuinely useful program for furniture, old appliances, and similar household junk.
It's not built for shed demolition, though. The program specifically excludes hot tubs, pianos, bathtubs, boats, tires, and construction and demolition debris, and a torn-down shed falls squarely into that last category. Seasonal city events like the spring cleanup, the fall leaf drop-off at Discovery Park, and winter tree composting are sized the same way, for household items and yard trimmings, not framing lumber, roofing, or a concrete pad.
- Bulky pickup: won't take hot tubs, pianos, bathtubs, boats, tires, or C&D debris
- Fall leaf drop-off and winter tree composting cover yard waste, not structural debris
- Dumpster in the street or right-of-way needs its own ACHD permit
- Demolition, shed, garage, and mobile home permits all go through Meridian Building Services
- Treated and painted wood typically can't go into clean-wood diversion
- No burning construction or demolition debris inside city limits, ever
Once you look at it this way, a shed or outbuilding teardown in Ten Mile comes down to three things working together: pulling the right permit before anything comes down, sorting the debris correctly for where it's headed, and knowing upfront that the city's free pickup programs aren't designed for this kind of material. Boise Shed Removal handles the demo and hauling end to end, and a quick look at the structure is all it takes to get a free estimate.
